Golf for Everyone
Editor’s Note: Top Golf provides a place for the entire family and friends to enjoy. It’s not really about golf, but more about a place to hang out, swing at some golf balls, enjoy music, drinks and a great atmosphere.
Personally, I have always found the driving range to be a great place to go. My buddies and I would get a bucket of balls, bring a couple of old clubs, hack our way through an hour or two and go down to the usual sandwich spot to grab a bite. Sounds like a good time right? Top Golf has taken that basic formula and really enhanced it.
Walking up to Top Golf, you’ll notice how large the building is – and modern too. It is intimidating too. Especially for my first time. Prior to going to Top Golf, I hadn’t been to the links let alone a driving range for about a decade. The last time I was at one my club heads flew into the actual range – my clubs had gotten old and lost its adhesion from between the shaft and club heads. Pretty embarassing…. I mentioned that it felt intimidating because I felt my terrible rusty swing would be seen and judged by everyone. If you have this fear, well, Top Golf is for you.
What I noticed was just a bunch of people who were there to simply have fun. The food and drinks were flowing, the smiles and laughs were plenty, and it wasn’t really about hitting the ball at all. It is really a great time out.
Good Eats and Golf?
The set up is neat. Every bay is either has a bar bistro table or outdoor lounge type furniture. It’s about feeling comfortable. Once you get to a bay, it works more like a bar and grill. You can order a variety of drinks, appetizers, entrees or desserts. I like to start with a local brew from the tap such as Knee Deep’s Si, Senor. To go with it, my go to are two dishes: 1. The BBQ Chicken Wings & 2. The Chicken and Waffle Sliders.
The BBQ Chicken Wings are exceptional. I’m not sure what their technique is, but the wings are crunchy, tangy and overall just satisfying. Helpful tip though, bring a bag of baby/hand wipes so that you can clean your hands before you grab a golf club because those wings are not only full of flavor, but full of sauce.
I had the Chicken and Waffle sliders on my first visit. They are phenomonal. The chicken is nicely fried and seasoned. The waffles have that nice texture and aroma. Along with syrup, their chicken and waffles comes with a delicious creamy jalepeno sauce. It really goes well with the other flavors.
Those are my two recommendations. They also have various salads and other healthy options too – if that is your thing.
You can’t really go wrong with a Si, Senor, but my wife and I have ordered a number of mimosas there that really just perfect.
Great Place to Go
It really is a good place to go. I enjoy taking my son there to wack the balls around. He is really into the digital mapping of the ball, the distance and point scoring systems. It keeps kids engaged. When I am there with him, I can have a nice snack with him while he learns how to play a life-long game.
I’ve also taken my family there. Although harder with younger children, my wife and I enjoy the food and mimosas. There is an arcade downstairs too.
When we have people from out of town visit, it is a destination we find ourselves going. It is a great place to chat, catch up, have a couple of bites and drinks, and overall good time.
